Doc's Simple Home Made Pasta

110ml Water
½ Teaspoon Olive oil
1 cup Plain flour - I use organic, unbleached bread flour with good results
½ teaspoon salt

 

I bung this in my breadmaker on a pasta dough cycle; Takes about 15 minutes.

 

You can also mix it by hand.

I am making lasagne sheets so get your gear together.

 

On a lightly floured surface roll and fold your pasta blob several times.

 

If you have a pasta maker thingy…

 

…you can use that to roll and fold through several thickness settings until you reach the thickness you want.



Measure the required length.

 

Sit the sheet on a damp tea-towel and continue to make as many as needed. For my lasagne I use 6 sheets in total.



Once the sheets have dried a bit you are ready to make Doc’s Easiest Lasagne in the world!

Easy toy

Here is a frugal, easy to make toy for young kids. It teaches your child manipulative, fine motor skills. Our children (and many others) used this toy and other similar ones as part of their Montessori upbringing. For more info go here:

Whatjaneed:
An assortment of bolts with matching nuts
A drill (hand or electric)
Drill bits to match the bolt sizes
Some epoxy glue (2 part glue that you mix)
Some wood
Sandpaper

 

Step 1
Look at the end product so you know what I am talking about

 


Step 2
Carefully measure and cut a piece of wood that is big enough for all of your bolts to thread though.

Step 3
Carefully measure the distance on the wood so that your bolts have space between them.

 

Step 4
Drill bolt holes using appropriate sized drill bit

 

Step 5
Turn the wood over and drill holes large enough to countersink the bolt head.

 

Step 6
Sand the wood so the edges are smooth

 

Step 7
Mix your epoxy and coat the bolt heads and the countersunk holes with it and put the bolts into the holes.

 

Step 8
Allow to dry

Optional Step 9
Cut another piece of wood and attach to the base (for cosmetic reasons only)

Optional Step 10
Finish with a coat of paint or wipe with soft cloth covered I vegetable oil.

You can also put a couple of drops of vegetable oil on the threads to make them easier to screw on.

Frugal Grey Water Plumbing

Tools required
Large drum (around 44 gallon size)

 

Drill

 

Adjustable spanner (if using a steel drum)
Tap set (if using drum with thick plastic base) often begged, stealed or borrowed from a mate 8-)
Hose (length according to where you want the water to go)

 

Connector (I used a 19mm screw-in type)

 

 

Please check with your local authorities about regulations concerning where and if you can use grey water run off.

Whatjado:
I had connected a hose to our washing machine and recently Scarecrow asked me to extend it so it would go to another area of the garden.

The problem was that when I did that we ended up with air blockages and the washing machine did not like it.

Since I don’t like hand washing clothes I decided to fix the problem.

Step 1
With your selected drum, drill a hole near the base that will allow the connector to go through.

 

Step 2
If you are going to screw the connector into the drum use a tap with the appropriate sized thread.

 

Step 3
Screw the connector into the drum

 

If you are using metal drum simply drill a hole and push it through then have somebody crawl inside it and do up the nut with the adjustable spanner. Of course make sure the drum is empty first.

Step 4
Connect you hose according to how you wish to use the water.

 

Scarecrow has a tap to allow her to control where else in the garden the water goes.

Step 5
Seal the connector to drum hole to prevent leaking.

 

Step 6
Connect your washing machine to a hose to allow you to fill up the drum.

 

The idea is that the drum collects the water and it flows out at a reasonable rate of flow to where you want it.

Doc's Frugal Burgers

You need:



500g (ish) mincemeat
2 Cups Breadcrumbs
1 onion
¼ Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 Egg
Some herbs and spices according to taste

Mix it all together (I use a food processor), flatten into patties and cook.

Once cooked these can be frozen.
